Find about our process here.  It’s a relatively straightforward and easy process to get started.

Our legal services are led by an attorney with more than 20 years of dedicated experience in contract law. In addition to legal expertise, we bring hands-on knowledge from managing medical practices.

We have experience advising physicians of all specialties and other healthcare professionals such as dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and others.

We also advise medical practices.  With experience representing employers and employees, we understand the goals and priorities of each side.

You will receive personalized attention from our physician contract lawyer that is duly licensed to practice law.  You will have the opportunity to speak with the attorney on the phone, via Microsoft Teams, or communicate through email.  Even after your case is concluded, you will have our lawyer’s personal email address so that you can contact him directly for future legal needs.

PT Law, PLLC was formed to help healthcare providers of all specialties and backgrounds, among other clients.  Although our firm is based in Houston, Texas, we maintain a practice to assist those in need throughout the United States.

We begin with a complimentary consultation to get to know you and understand your goals. Once we have a clear picture of your background and what you’re aiming to achieve, we’ll outline how we can support you in reaching those objectives.

If you’d like us to review your contract, we’ll ask you to send it via email. After we receive it, we’ll conduct a thorough analysis of its terms and provisions. Next, we’ll schedule a one-on-one call—typically lasting between an hour to an hour and a half—where we walk you through the key elements of your agreement and help you understand its implications.

Should you choose to retain us for contract negotiation, we’ll recommend specific improvements and revise the contract language as needed. We’ll then handle direct negotiations with your employer on your behalf. Throughout the process, we remain available to answer any follow-up questions you may have.

Yes, we can review and analyze your compensation and provide our thoughts based on our experience.

Yes, we have access to MGMA DataDive Provider Compensation data set, which is a well-known database of provider compensation.  With this tool, we can examine physician and advanced practice provider (“APP”) compensation across specialties and subspecialties.  The benchmarking data used by MGMA can be helpful for you to determine whether your offer is consistent with the market based on fair market value based on role, region, and practice type.

We can provide you access to your own MGMA report for an additional fee.

We are in Houston, Texas, about ten minutes away from the world-renowned Texas Medical Center.  However, we have clients from across the State of Texas and entire country.

Yes!  We can help you if you are not physically located in the State of Texas.  We can help you if you are looking at a job anywhere in the United States.

Absolutely!  What is considered standard by the potential employer may still be one-sided and unfavorable to you.  For example, there may be a restrictive covenant, such as a non-compete, which is overly broad.  Or, there may be a termination clause that allows your potential employer to terminate you with little or no notice.  Even if they say “no changes” are allowed, it’s not uncommon for employers to make limited exceptions or to modify exhibits to clarify ambiguous language, define call schedules, or provide signing bonuses or relocation reimbursements.  Finally, it’s prudent for you to understand your contract before you sign it because it puts you in a better position if issues come up later.  A review can help you determine in advance what happens if you resign or are terminated, what “tail” malpractice policy coverage obligations you may have, and how your compensation may be affected.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

It does not hurt to ask.  Most employers will not react negatively, and many are expecting you to request changes. The contract will not re-write itself!  We have not heard of an employer retracting an offer for asking for a reasonable request.  The key is to have your contract reviewed so you can be informed on what to ask for.

PT Law, PLLC was created with the understanding that most physicians complete their training without formal education in contract evaluation or the business aspects of practicing medicine. This often leaves new doctors at a disadvantage when transitioning into their first professional role.

We believe residents and fellows benefit greatly from working with seasoned professionals who specialize in physician employment and understand the complexities of the healthcare industry. Our attorney is equipped to spot potential red flags, offer practical solutions, and tailor contract language to better protect your interests.

With experience representing hundreds of physicians not only in the State of Texas but nationwide, we provide the insight and guidance you need to confidently navigate your first employment agreement.  We serve as a trusted partner for new physicians — helping you understand what to look for in your contract and eliminating uncertainty about who to turn to for expert advice.  We have physician references to share upon request.

You have trained for years—don’t sign without understanding the fine print.
